It was my first time to visit Kanazawa in Ishikawa Pref. I knew Kanazawa was a famous city that had traditional buildings and Japanese gardens, but I often go to Kyoto to enjoy such kind of cityscapes. While walking around Kanazawa, however, I noticed Kyoto is traditional but developing and Kanazawa is preserving the Japanese tradition in the whole city.
I visited several spots in Kanazawa in a day. This gallery picks up a Japanese garden named "Kenroku-en (兼六園)" and a street named "Higashi-Chayagai(ひがし茶屋街)" which are very impressive for me. You can enjoy the zen-like spirit in one of the three biggest Japanese garden in Japan and traditional Japanese cityscape in the street. I prefer to visiting such streets at night like I did in Kyoto, too!
I made a photo album at the end of this page which has photos that are not listed on this gallery. Some of the photos are also available at Adobe Stock and Shutterstock.
Kenroku-en

First several shots are from Kenroku-en Japanese garden(兼六園). This garden is one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan along with Kairak-en(偕楽園)in Ibaraki and Koraku-en(後楽園)in Okayama (not in Tokyo!!). It was on a spring holiday season in May, so the garden is filled up with new leaves green mosses. If you come to the garden in autumn, you can also enjoy the coloured leaves in red and yellow.

Kenroku-en is very large with some ponds, statues and architectures to see around. There is also a shrine named Kanazawa-jinja(金澤神社)and even a castle named Kanazawa Castle(金沢城)next to the garden. Most of the sightseeing spots are gathered around this area, and you can walk around almost everything in day. I recommend you to use city buses, though.
Higashi-Chayagai (+other night sights)
Next photo spot is called Higashi-Chayagai(ひがし茶屋街). This area preserves traditional Japanese architecture as restaurants or inns. One of the reasons why I chose this city for holiday travel is to visit this area and enjoy night time photo walk. Kyoto also has this kind of traditional street around Gion(祇園)area, but this area is larger but less travellers.

A river is running next to the Higashi-Chayagai, and the bridge across the river is a famous photo spots at night. I should've brought my tripod with me... Anyways, not only the bridges, but the building along the river is also traditional and good. The last photos of a tax is one of my favourites. Japanese politicians usually meet with some important/secret people in old-style Japanese restaurants. The tax must've been waiting for the politicians!
