Photo walk in past US navy houses, Johnson town ジョンソンタウン 埼玉県

Welcome
An American town near Tokyo.

Location:Johnson Town, Saitama (ジョンソンタウン 埼玉県)
Date: 27 June 2020

Camera: Fujifilm X-T30
Lens: Rikenon XR Rikenon 50mm F2 L, Wtulens

”Nostalgia" is one of my photo theme. Tokyo is typically featured with technology and sci-fi atmosphere. However, when you go to rural areas from Tokyo, you can find such a "nostalgic" scenery around you.

Johnson town is a small town in Saitama pref with restaurants and shops which features classical American style houses. It is close to Tokyo and very good place to feel nostalgic air (though I've never been to the US!). The photos below are taken with old lenses or a film cameras that make you feel like time travelling back to 80s.

I made a photo album at the end of this page which has photos that are not listed on this gallery. Some of the photos are also available at Adobe Stock and Shutterstock.

Johnson town used to be real US navy accommodations after the WW2. After the US navy left, Japanese people started to live here and rebuilt the accommodations to make "Good place to live!". This town has also been awarded many prizes for good scenery and architectures.

Now the accommodations are reused as shops and restaurants featuring American cultures. There are also a residential areas here. We are not allowed to enter the areas, but you can find some American vehicles like Tahoe, which is very rare to see in Japan.

You can also find some shops that features other countries like China or the UK. The rubber duck with the Tower Bridge in London is my favourite photo. If you like Moomin, I recommend you to come to this area as Saitama pref has some theme parks like Moomin Valley or Tove Jansson Children Forest.

I've been here several times, and I once went there with only a film cameras or toy lens named Wtulens. Even if I take the same thing, the nostalgic atmosphere of film photos is awesome and good for photo walk in Johonson Town.

My photo gallery has introduced the famous travellers spots so far, but I love to go photo walks like rural areas like this Johnson Town with classical lenses. Tokyo and surrounding areas has many good places or towns for photo walks, so I'd love to restart travelling once the COVID-19 pandemic is over!!
